Free AI code editor · v1.0.6

Your editor. Now it thinks.

Reges Code is the AI code editor that runs on your machine. Local models first, free models when you want the cloud, and a team of models that checks its own work.

Windows 10/11 · no account · updates itself

01Local-first

Your code never leaves.

Reges Code finds LM Studio, Ollama, vLLM, llama.cpp, Jan and Lemonade on your machine by itself. Your GPU, your models, no account and no limits.

02Free models

No credit wall. Ever.

Rate-limited? It moves to the next free model and tells you. Daily free cap reached? Straight to your local model. It never switches you to a paid model on its own.

03Reges Swarm

One model guesses. A team checks.

Architect, coder, reviewer, security and judge: five models in a pipeline, in parallel or in a debate. Built in, and free with local and free models.

04Honesty check

It can’t fake the work.

If a reply says “files created” but the turn wrote nothing and ran nothing, Reges Code says so, right under the reply.

05Models

Local first. Free second. Paid only if you ask.

Reges Code picks from what you already have: models on your own GPU, free cloud models, and paid routers only when you choose them.

  • Local

Found automatically. Runs on your GPU.

LM Studio, Ollama, vLLM, llama.cpp, Jan and Lemonade are detected on your machine. Nothing to sign up for, nothing leaves the PC.

    ✓ LM Studio qwen3.5-4b free · local
✓ Ollama any pulled model free · local
    · vLLM · llama.cpp · Jan · Lemonade
  • Free cloud

The OpenRouter free router, built in.

When a free model is busy it moves to the next free one and tells you. When the daily free limit is reached it goes to your local model. No credit wall.

    429 rate-limited: qwen3.8-27b:free
    → openrouter/free (free)
→ daily cap? your local model
  • MCP

    Tools, built in.

Built-in MCP servers, including Reges Swarm, plus any MCP server you add to your config.

  • Extensions

    Open VSX extensions.

The editor you know, with the extensions you use: themes, languages, debuggers and Git.

  • Updates

    Download once.

Updates download in the background, are checked against their SHA-256 and install on the next restart.

06Reges Swarm

A team of models. Built into the editor.

Ask once. Reges Swarm hands the task to a team: one plans, one writes, two read it critically, one decides. It only uses loaded local models and free models unless you allow paid ones.

  1. 01

    Architect plans.

Breaks your request into files, functions and checks.

  2. 02

    Coder writes.

Makes the change against your real project.

  3. 03

    Reviewer and security read it.

Two independent passes look for bugs and unsafe code.

  4. 04

    Judge picks.

Compares the results and keeps the best one, with its reasons.

07Honest agent

No make-believe. Every claim is checked.

AI agents sometimes announce work they never did. Reges Code compares what the reply says with the tools the turn actually ran.

  • Caught

A claim with nothing behind it.

agent: Done! Files created, app ready at :5173
⚠ Reges check: this turn wrote no files
    and ran no commands.
  • Proven

A fix with the evidence attached.

    → read_file math.ts
    → write_file math.ts (a - b → a + b)
    → run node test/math.test.ts
    ✓ add(2, 3) = 5
08Reges Code CLI

Same agent. In your terminal.

The same models, the same free-only fallback, the same honesty check. Every write and every command asks first. Switch with /model free · cheap · best · local.

Ships with the next Reges Code release.

09FAQ

Questions, answered straight.

Is Reges Code free?

Yes, while in beta. With local models or free cloud models it costs nothing, and it never switches you to a paid model on its own.

Does my code leave my computer?

Not with a local model. Reges Code finds LM Studio, Ollama, vLLM, llama.cpp, Jan and Lemonade on your machine. If you choose a cloud model, only the prompts you send go to that provider.

What happens when a free model is rate-limited?

It switches to the next free option (OpenRouter’s free router, other free models, then your local model) and tells you. When OpenRouter’s daily free limit is reached it goes straight to your local model and never asks you to buy credits.

What is Reges Swarm?

A built-in team of models that work in a pipeline, in parallel or as a debate: an architect plans, a coder writes, a reviewer and a security check read the result, and a judge picks. It uses free and local models unless you allow paid ones.

Which operating systems are supported?

Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) today. Linux and macOS builds are in progress.

Why does Windows show a SmartScreen warning?

The beta installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows shows “Publisher: Unknown”. Choose More info, then Run anyway. Updates install from inside the app and do not show the warning.

How do updates work?

Reges Code checks for updates, downloads them in the background, verifies the file’s SHA-256 checksum and installs on the next restart. You download the installer only once.
